So the story is set up just after independence of india 1951 in brahmpur bihar. The story begin with a mother rupa mehra who has done with marriage if his elder daughter and searching a groom for his younger daughter lata mehra.
Lata is an open minded girl and want to explore the world and want to experience life. She goes to college where she meet a boy name kabir durrani a muslim and they both fell in love with each other. And we know how much it is difficult between hindu and muslim girls and boys and in those time we can't imagine especially when country is just divided on the basis of so called religion. And when her mother came to know about this thing she became upset and cry infront of her they leave the place and shifted to calcutta. Where her mother find a guy name hatesh khanna who is an leather tech engineer and is working show making company. At the same time lata's brother's wife's brother amit chatterji who is a writer by profession meet lata. They also shows a great chemistry too. The story circulates between lata, kabir, haresh, amit and suspense that which lata is going to marry.
A parellel connected love story of maan kapoor(ishan khattar) and saaeda bai who is a singer and tawaif(kind of sex worker). Saaeda is almost the double the age of maan. The series shows religious tolerance and intolerance, poverty of india, mindset of people belonging to upper class and lower, actually there is minimal people belongs to middle class at that time.
